Anne McDaniel, PhD is the Executive Director in the Center for the Study of Student Life. Anne joined the Center for the Study of Student Life in 2013 as the Associate Director for Research and Data Management. She earned a PhD in Sociology at The Ohio State University and was a postdoctoral scholar at Columbia University’s Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. Prior to joining CSSL, Dr. McDaniel was an Assistant Professor of Education and Sociology (by courtesy) at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. McDaniel’s research interests include socioeconomic, gender and racial inequalities in higher education, especially as they relate to student experiences and persistence. Currently, her research focuses on the experiences of first generation college students. Her research has appeared in over 20 peer-reviewed journals and books, including recent publications in the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, Educational Researcher and Sociology Compass.
